How to Choose a Hospital in Delhi NCR as an International Patient

Brand names are the easy part. These are the six criteria that actually change outcomes.

1. Accreditation is the floor, not the ceiling

Look for NABH accreditation at minimum, and JCI accreditation for the highest international standard. Accreditation tells you the hospital has audited infection control, medication safety and emergency response processes. It does not tell you how good your surgeon is.

2. Sub-specialty volume for your exact procedure

A hospital can be excellent at cardiac surgery and unremarkable at liver transplant. Ask how many of your specific operation the unit performs annually. In complex fields — congenital cardiac, transplant, robotic oncology — the difference between a high-volume and a low-volume unit shows up directly in complication rates.

3. The named surgeon

Insist on knowing who will personally operate, not merely which department admits you. Healnexa books the consultant by name and confirms it in writing on your estimate.

4. ICU capability

For high-risk cases, ask whether the ICU is intensivist-led around the clock, whether there is a dedicated cardiac or neonatal ICU, and what the nurse-to-bed ratio is. This matters far more than the marble in the lobby.

5. The international patient department

A functioning international desk provides interpreters, visa and FRRO support, halal catering, prayer space, airport transfers and a single billing contact. Ask whether you get a named coordinator or a shared helpdesk.

6. Transparent, itemised estimates

A credible estimate lists the surgeon's fee, theatre, implants, ICU days, ward days, investigations and consumables separately, and states what happens if the stay is longer than planned. If a hospital cannot produce this before you fly, treat it as a warning.
